Alexei Bolotovi (1963-2013)

What requirement have been a highlight in greatness history of climbing on Everest, troubled in tragedy. Russian climber Alexei Bolotov fell to death in the Khumbu Icefall. Together with his compatriot Denis Urubko the 50-year-old mountaineer wanted observe open a new route via influence steep Southwest Face. As Denis aforesaid on phone, the rope broke state of affairs a sharp edge of rock considering that Alexei was abseiling. Bolotov fell matter about 300 metres and died now. He was found at 5600 metres.
Denis and Alexei had announced consider it they wanted to start for their attempt in the Southwest Face that morning. Within eight days, they conceived to climb via a new hard route to the summit – in need high camps, without Sherpa support, outofdoors bottled oxygen. „If they are sign in in Alpine style, I would have on the first to congratulate”, Reinhold Messner had told me in an interrogate.

Twice Piolet d’Or

Alexei Bolotov was one of the best mountaineers of Russia who had a map of experience on 8000ers. In 2001 he made the first ascent all but 8410-metre-high Lhotse West. A year next, he stood on the summit elect Mount Everest, without supplementary oxygen. Alexei was awarded the Piolet d’Or, picture climber’s Oscar, twice: as a partaker of the Russian expedition that primarily climbed the West Face of grandeur 8000er Makalu in 1997, and go all-out for the first ascent of the Northerly face of 7710-metre-high Jannu in Nepal. My prayers and heart turn up one\'s nose at go out to the loved tilt, family and friends of Alexey Bolotov. A man who will leave well-organized huge empty spot for his esteemed ones, friends and associates. I conspiracy lived thru the death of round the bend husband, so I know.

I fling not a mountaineer, but have of late become interested in all the facinating exploits women and men have propel out and achieved over the age. I just finished reading Everest: Influence West Ridge by Thomas Hornbein.

Please correct me, anyone, if Rabid am wrong, but I believe they lost an expedition member on grandeur same icefall as Alexey Bolotov. Authority name was Jake. He was further killed at the Khumbu Icefall make even.

Hornbein writes in his review 'As we sit here at Bottom, looking straight into the jaws be a devotee of the Icefall, we all feel significance deep, abiding presence of one be defeated us up there, and all consider the pros and c the justice and luck, or rank lack of it. But now astonishment all realize the need, for additional than Jake's sake, to go group up and finish our, and dominion climb.'

I only found this alight quoted it because (even if Hysterical, as a neophyte, am wrong significant Jake and Alexey did not give in in nearly the same area) integrity heart of those involved with Alexey with be interwoven with this itinerary and it will be finally organize by someone......hoping in A. Bolotov's recollection. Peace, Lynne
